Introducing The New Adidas Fit Smart Watch

We have all seen dozens of wearable fitness technology hitting the market in the past couple of years.  We have seen Nike+ Fuelband, Jawbone, Fitbit, BodyBugg
and more.

I’m ALL ABOUT wearable technology (I’m an IT nerd who loves fitness so I’m all about it!).

Adidas has been in the background in this field until now.  They just came out with The Adidas Fit Smart Watch.

This watch is all silicone and has led lights that display the data.

How much does it cost?

This watch will be available August 17th and can be purchased for $199.

How is this watch different from other fitness watches?

It’s VERY different actually.  You know how sometimes gadgets will claim to do EVERYTHING but never end up being that great at any single thing?  Adidas wanted to be different and not try to be all fancy shmancy.  They created a watch to focus on one specific thing…and do it as best as possible.

Their focus: heart rate tracking.

I have been waiting for the day I can find a watch that I can wear (without a strap around my ribcage) that can monitor my activity throughout the day and display an accurate amount of calories burned specific to ME.

Will this watch fulfill my goals?

Not completely.

I love that this watch doesn’t require a sensor around your ribcage.  I imagine it has a sensor in the wrist area to monitor sweat and the pulse on your wrist.  This watch is to be worn during your workout only.  It’s not meant to be worn as an all day watch.  The battery life is only 10 hours before it has to be recharged.

“The key feature is a glowing band of LED light on the face of the device that uses the heart rate monitor, with various accompanying hues, from blue and green to yellow and red, to signal and inform you about workout intensity at a glance.” – CNet.com

After you workout, you take off the watch and can sync it up to your Android or IPhone app to analyze your results.

I do like some features about this watch such as the silicone and the fact it’s studying heart rate specifically but I think it has to be improved before I would purchase it.  I would love to see it have a longer battery life so I could wear it all day to track my daily calorie expenditure.

I’m glad to see Adidas step up into the wearable technology game, but do you think it’s good enough to compete with Nike+ Fuelband, Jawbone, Fitbit, or the BodyBugg?  Leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts!
