My Trip to New Orleans, Workout Clothes and More!

 

Sorry for being a little MIA lately, I’ve been pretty darn busy.  Since I blogged last, I’ve been doing a bunch.  I went to New Orleans for the first time and had a BLAST!

I always heard New Orleans was crazy but I had no idea how crazy it was and we WEREN’T even there for Mardi Gras.  I can’t even imagine the craziness of that.  I took a ton of pictures so I’m just going to show a couple to explain some of our night.  Pictures are always more fun than words, right!?

We got there around noon and walked around Bourbon street.  It was bar after bar after bar after bar after bar…you get it.

We made sure to stop in The Tropical Isle and Spirits on Bourbon because they were both on the show Bar Rescue.  I love that show!

We met Sally Tally and Jim Ling…that was really their names.  No joke!  They were both between 70-80 years old and lived in a nudist colony in CA.  They tried to get us to join…haha

We went into about 20 different places while we were there on our own little mini bar crawl.  It was seriously a BLAST.  We met some amazing people who I’ve kept in contact with since.  Don’t you love when you meet people on vacation and you just click.  That’s what happened there.  Everyone was so awesome.

Throughout our little one night adventure in New Orleans, I learned a few things…

  1. They use liquor that’s 190 proof in some drinks like the popular hand grenade and hurricane!  190 proof!!!! That’s close to rubbing alcohol and is only legal in 5 states.  No wonder why people get naked in NOLA.  Be careful if you drink on Bourbon street!!!
  2. There are a LOT of strip clubs….I swear they were everywhere.
  3. If you ask someone if they will light their hand on fire in New Orleans, they will.
  4. You may see a bar that has URNS above the bar with spotlights shining on them with the remains of previous customers who wanted their remains left in the bar forever.  Now that’s a loyal customer!
  5. I will be back for round two, New Orleans, I’ll be back!

I have so many hilariously funny stories from this trip that made it one of the most fun nights of my life..and I’ve had some fun nights in my days!

The next morning we rented a car and drove to Mobile, AL to visit our friends who recently moved there.  He is an assistant basketball coach for University of South Alabama so we were lucky enough to go to two games while we were in town.

It was a great time catching up with them and getting out of the crazy cold weather in the Midwest.

Then we came back home and it was old man Maximus’ 10th birthday.  Gosh I love this dog!

And….we’ve been putting in a lot of hours at my rental property.  It’s been a blast (sarcasm to the fullest) pulling up the carpet to find weak spots on the subfloor.  When we pulled up the subfloor, we found nothing but wood that you could crumble with your finger.  I even fell through the floor at one point and gashed my hand a bit.  I’m all good though…just a little DIY battle wound :)

We are now working on rebuilding the subfloor so we can lay new floors on top of it.  The good thing about all of this is I’m learning a LOT about construction!

I’ve also started adding some items to my Etsy shop!  For the past few months, I’ve been experimenting with screen printing.  It’s a LOT harder than it looks and takes a lot of time and patience.  I’ve come up with a couple designs that I’m pretty much obsessed with.  I researched a bunch of manufacturers to find the softest tanks and I finally found one!

I wanted my shirts to look and feel like an old jr high school gym shirt that’s been washed a gazillion times.  You know what I’m talking about!

This one has stamped like text that reads “Made With All Natural Ingredients – Eat Clean”.  I wanted people from afar to see the words ALL NATURAL but when they get up close they can see the Eat Clean text under it.  I’m proud to say that I’m an all natural girl and I wanted a gym tank that says it.  I love the purple burnout soft material too.

I’ve been making it in the purple, grey or white.  They are all so soft I want to sleep in them!

The second design is of course my Live Life Active tank.  It looks really cute on the purple too.

Alright this is turning into a super long post but I guess that’s what happens when I haven’t blogged in a while.

Baby Oil Slip-N-Slides and 7 Ft Tall Men

How’s that for a random post title ;)

What a weekend! On Saturday, we woke up at 2:45am to head over to the Indy 500. We left the house at 3:15 and got to the track a little before 4. You have to get there EARLY to put your car in line in order to get into the infield. After you park, people get out of their cars and tailgate at 4am!!! It’s so crazy.

We ended up getting into the track around 6ish and set up our spot. It was 97 degrees in Indianapolis! We were so lucky to get our usual spot that we’ve had for the past 4 years. It is the ultimate spot because it’s under a bunch of trees and close to the bathrooms. Thank goodness we got this spot because it was literally about 20 degrees cooler in our spot than it was 20 feet away from us. It was PERFECT.

We even had a baby pool to put our feet in if we got hot. It was perfection!

The race doesn’t even start until noon and then it’s about 3 hours long. Needless to say we were at the track for a LONG time. It was fun but I couldn’t tell you one thing about the race…I don’t even know who won. I was there for the party in the infield and it was a blast :)

Somehow I forgot to take pictures. I only have a couple that other people took.

This is my best friend who came in town from Chicago and this guy went to college with us. I hadn’t seen him in like 8 years! I wore my hot pink cut off shorts. I LOVED them and need to find somewhere else to wear them to!

My boyfriend also brought an adult slip-n-slide that he made. He greased it up with baby oil (probably not the best thing in 97 degrees!!) I hope no one burnt too bad because of the oil!

You can see our spot under the trees. We had a lot of people including a bachelor party. We had 4 guys who are aroudn 7 feet tall. I have never seen so many people stop and stare at us because of them. That’s what happens when you hang out with a group of basketball players I guess. I felt like a midget and I’m 5’7!

Overall it was a great race. Everything worked out perfectly. I woke up Monday feeling great and wanted to lay out. I went to Walmart and bought this awesome baby pool for my back yard. After seeing the one at the race, I wanted one of my own. It’s HUGE! I was able to completely lay down in it. I think it’s going to be a huge hit this summer :)

Due to the holiday weekend and race, I had a not so clean weekend with eating. I did NOT turn down a burger and beers at the race, pizza after the race and a sushi buffet the afternoon afterwards. I was way too relaxed with my diet than I should have been. That just means I need to kick it back into high gear this week.

I did manage to get a workout in on Saturday. My boyfriend and I hit the gym and he trained me. He has trained several people in the past and is a meat head himself ;) He really knows his stuff. We worked my shoulders, biceps and triceps. We don’t go together that often, but when we do, I feel like he’s always impressed with my increased strength.

There were several times where he told me to start at a certain weight and I corrected him telling him that was too light. I shocked him several times with my weights :).

I’m also going to switch up my training. After I posted about my period issue… I emailed my coach. I told her my body isn’t functioning properly and I’m worried about it. I’m now going to focus on gaining more muscle.

So I’m switching up my training to focus on gaining more muscle and my diet has changed to increase my starches every day. I hope this will be enough to get my body on the right track!

Wine at Work?

Yesterday morning..my office desk looked a little something like this….

Yes…that’s a bottle of wine in my office desk.  No, I’m not a drunk.  Yes, I do have a very considerate co-worker who brought it back for me from his vacation.  No, I didn’t sip on it for the rest of the day out of my coffee cup at work.  Yes, I wish I was that badass to do so!

Instead, Max drank it and passed out on the couch last night..

Just kidding but doesn’t he look adorable all snuggled up.  He uses pillows and blankets like a human.

Yesterday I rocked at life.  I went to LifeStyle at lunch and worked out legs for day 54.  It’s weird to workout at lunch.  I knew I’d be okay though because legs day never has any cardio.  I hate being a super sweaty monster when I go back to work.  No one appreciates a smelly and greasy co-worker.

After work, I took about an hour nap and then headed to the gym around 8pm.  I went to Life Time Total Fitness this time.  Even though my gym got bought out, I am still able to visit another Lifestyle location while also being able to go to LifeTime.  It’s nice having the option to go to either one.  I still miss my old LifeStyle location though :(

I completed Day 55 last night.  It was Back, Rear Delts & Cardio. Today, my back is letting me know that it got a good workout in.  My cardio was treadmill for 4.0mph with 4% incline for 30 min.

After I got done, I watched my man kick some butt in basketball for about 20 min.  Man those guys get SWEATY!!!!!

The best part of the day is that I COMPLETED PHASE 2!!!  I’m so proud of myself for sticking with this program for as long as I have.  I’ll write up another post for my phase 2 progress like I did for my phase 1 results.

I’m totally nervous for the last and final phase of this program.  I am starting it tonight.  It is all about adding plyometric’s inbetween sets to keep your heart rate up.  It also adds in 30 minutes of sprints on the treadmill to really sculpt all the muscle that has been built in phases 1 and 2.  I’m nervous but excited to see how my body can transform.  Wish me luck.  I’ll need it :)

After tonight’s workout, hopefully I don’t need to drown myself in my new bottle of office wine!
