Day 4 Of My 14 Day Keto Diet Experiment
Day 4 and still alive! It’s the last day before the weekend so I’m a bit drained and hoping I don’t derail my progress over the weekend on my journey through a 14 day keto diet experiment.
What I Ate
Breakfast
I woke up a little late this morning and jumped straight into meetings and was too busy to eat. Oops, but oh well.
Lunch
I’m really digging my homemade salads lately. It’s just so easy and perfect with my macros. My homemade salad consisted of the items below.
- Spinach
- Shredded chicken
- Green Olives
- Ranch dressing
I ran out of shredded cheese so I had to do today’s salad without. A little more boring but it did it’s job.
I also had some sunflower seeds with lunch for my “crunch”. I always need something crunchy in my meals or I’m not a happy camper. Anyone with me on that?
Dinner
Did you know Blaze Pizza offers a Keto Pizza? After looking online for keto dinner recipe ideas, I somehow stumbled upon this little secret about Blaze. So, guess where I ended up Friday night? Blaze Pizza to try their keto crust.
Overall it was pretty good! You can definitely tell that it’s not a “normal” crust but it’s good and absolutely kicks the craving for pizza. I got red sauce, cheese, pepperoni and bacon and ate half of it. Somehow I got extremely full fast when eating it. I took the other half home to enjoy another day.
The nutrition for the Keto pizza crust is below. Since the serving size is 1 slice and I had 3 pieces (half), the total net carbs for half of the pizza was only 9g! I’ll take 9g of carbs ANY day to eat pizza!
Other
I’m on day 4 with no diet coke!!!
Side Effects
I wanted to start another section for side effects I’m feeling. Yesterday I mentioned the “Keto Flu” and wanted to track my side effects to see if I’m experiencing any of the keto flu symptoms.
Today I felt okay in the morning but then developed a bit of a headache in the afternoon. I’ts now been a few hours with a headache. it’s nothing terrible though, just a very minor headache. Nothing I can’t handle.
Workout
I decided to work through lunch today and didn’t get a workout in. It’s okay though, with my headache, I wasn’t feeling it anyway. I worked out the last 3 days so I’m not going to beat myself up about it at all.
Calories Burned during workout: zero
Macros / Nutrition
As mentioned above, my goal is to stick to 25 net calories or less each day. When I say “net carbs” that means grams of carbs minus grams of fiber = net carbs. My macros ended up looking like this at the end of the day. I’m not trying to hit any fat/fiber/protein goals, just strictly keeping an eye on my net carbs being under 25 at this point.
- Net Carbs: 22g
- Fiber: 11g
- Fat: 64g
- Protein: 82g
Ketone Levels
I tested my level of ketones this morning and after only 3 full days on keto and it looks pretty similar to yesterday’s test. May be a tad bit darker bust ill around the “trace” phase almost into the “small” phase..
To test this, I’m using strips called Ketone Script. You just dip a strip in your urine and after 40 seconds you can see your ketosis levels. So simple and the bottle comes with 150 strips!! This little bottle was less than $7 bucks and will last me forever.
My Current Measurements / Weight
Ewww the worst part has arrived. This is when I shamelessly tell you my weight and pretend like it never happened.
- Starting Weight: 158.8 lbs
- Today’s Weight: 155.9 lbs
- Weight Lost on Keto Diet: – 2.9 lbs in just three days!
Some more weight dropped off yesterday. I’ve lost almost a pound a day with nearly 3 pounds in 3 days. I know it will taper down and not come off as quickly soon but hey I’m surely enjoying the scale these past 3 days.
I probably won’t weigh myself every day but I self admittedly do have a minor unhealthy obsession with my scale though. It’s just so tempting to step on it and it doesn’t hurt that I have one of the coolest scales around.
Overall Thoughts of the Keto Diet Experiment
Overall I’m hanging in there but this headache today has been just annoying. I’m also really craving bad stuff and hoping I can fight passed the cravings as the weekend rolls in.
