My Birthday Trip To Cancun Mexico

I’m baaaaaaaaaack!!!

I spent the last week in Cancun with a group of my close friends to celebrate my birthday! There’s no better way to celebrate a birthday than on vacation at the beach!

I had never been to Cancun so we booked a trip at the GR Solaris.

The resort was great and Cancun was beautiful!

We spent every day waking up early, going to reserve some good spots by the pool or beach, then going to our all inclusive breakfast buffet.  After breakfast we would relax by the water for the entire day and just enjoy life and good friends.  It was exactly what I wanted to do for my birthday week!

I love the picture of Ryan above.  I feel like it captures the relaxing feeling of our whole trip.

A bit dark but a good one!  I brought about 15 pairs of crazy sun glasses from the Color Me Rad 5k.  We all wore them all vacation and they were a big hit at the resort.

I worked out and ate really well before this trip so that I could enjoy vacation and not worry too much about what I ate or drank while I was there.  That was my reward..so that’s what I did.  We ate like KINGS and QUEENS all trip.  Gotta love all inclusive resorts!

The resort entertainment staff were great.  They were always so friendly and energetic.  The whole place felt like one big family.  We met so many awesome people from all over the world. They had events at the pool all day every day that kept everyone engaged.

Water Balloon Fight!

Every night they had a show at one of the dinners.  We made it to the Mexican night and then of course the Michael Jackson show!

The drinks were flowing too of course..come on..we WERE in MEXICO 🙂  The picture above was about 20 minutes after we got to the resort.  Within our quick lunch, the waiters kept bringing us shots of tequila.  I’m NOT a fan of tequila though..yuck!

I did have one mixed one but the waiter had me take it and then he spun my head around to get me dizzy.  I felt like I was on college spring break again…fun times!

My drink of choice the whole trip was a simple Pina Colada.  They were VERY weak drinks though which was actually nice so no one went overboard.

My friend Courtney and I went to the town one day to go shopping and hit up Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville on the way home.  We got to catch a glimpse of the Northwestern vs Michigan State football game on TV and it was great seeing our Chicago people at home all bundled up freezing while we were in 80 degree weather 🙂  Sorry Chicago peeps!

And the beach..

We played some pool volleyball too.  That was a good time and of course we got very competitive with it.  Ryan and I also went to the resort gym one morning.  I love when a resort has a decent gym.  This one was pretty good!  We lifted shoulders, chest and core and I felt the soreness for the rest of the trip..oops!

I did end up getting a little sick in Cancun though.  I think it had to do with my diet and the sugary drinks I was having.  I think my body was so used to eating clean and drinking nothing but water.  When I got there… I ate whatever I wanted and drank almost nothing BUT sugary fruity drinks.  My stomach was cramping on me since day 2 of the trip.  It’s still not back to 100% normal.  I know the water in Mexico used to be bad, but I’m not sure if it was the water or my diet?  Anyone ever have this happen to them?  Who knows..

I didn’t let that stop me from having fun though!  I had an AMAZING birthday week with some awesome friends.
