My Visit to the AME Church – Where The Charleston Shooting Occured

Well this last week has been one big whirlwind of emotions in Charleston.  As you probably already heard, on June 17th, 2015, a tragic event occurred in the “holy city” of Charleston, SC.  21 year old Dylann Roof entered this place of prayer during a bible study and shot and killed nine innocent people.

The beautiful church is the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church (also known as the AME Church).  It is one of the United States’ oldest black churches and has been a staple to the community as well as civil rights.

This unfortunate event appears to be a hate crime.  Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder by the state of South Carolina.

I went to the Church a few days ago to pay my respect and see the memorials that were left outside the church and I just had to write about it because it was simply amazing how Charleston has come together after it.   Check out my pictures and videos I took from the AME Church.

This picture below had me tear up.  This balloon made it so much more real for me.

There were endless amounts of fresh flowers, cards and people paying their respects for the victims.  It’s now been over a week since the shooting and the church is still just as busy and full of fresh flowers.

I signed my  name on the Charleston United sign but it was hard to find a tiny white spot to write.  I found one though!

It was so sad to see this terrible murder of innocent people in such a great city but seeing the city of Charleston come together after this has been truly amazing and made me 100% even more proud of calling this my new home.  Charleston has united and has been stronger than ever.

All I know is I’m happy to live here and sure as hell happy they caught that S.O.B!

Just thought I’d share my pictures of my visit to the AME Church with you.  Leave a comment below if you’d like!
