Setting Macros To Grams in MyFitnessPal

Setting Macros To Grams in MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal.com is the most popular website that I know of to track nutrition.  It’s so simple.  You download the app (or go on the website), scan your food you eat or simply pick from over 4 million foods in their database.

I absolutely love using MyFitnessPal but found that if you’re following an IIFYM type of diet, it’s hard to change your macros to match your goals.

Good news though, there is a hack to change the percentages in MyFitnessPal to grams so you can track your macros better!

Thanks to the brilliant mind of Rob Ruchte at Karoshi Ethos, he developed a JavaScript bookmarklet to fix this problem for all of us IIFYM-ers.  Here’s the original post however I’ll show you his trick below as well!

Setting Macros To Grams in MyFitnessPal (or specific percentages)

Features:

  • Set percentages in 1% increments
  • Set targets in grams rather than percentage
  • Set one of the three macros to  automatically fill any remaining calories in your daily goal that are not allocated to the other two macros
  • Remember your advanced settings as long as you do not overwrite your changes with the default MFP 5% scheme

Example – Specify protein in grams, fat as a percentage, fill remaining calories with carbs

How To Install The MyFitnessPal Script To Change To Grams

Using Internet Explorer or Safari, add the blue bookmarklet to your bookmarks.  (All I did was drag the blue button below up into my bookmarks in Safari)

MyFitnessPal Macro Enhancements

NOTE:  You’ll have to go HERE to get the bookmark (just scroll down that page and find the same blue button and add it to your bookmarks and then come back to this post) until I can figure out how to make mine work correctly.

Internet explorer users, right click the link in the blue box below and click “Add to Favorites”. Safari users, drag the link up to your bookmarks bar.

Log into MyFitnessPal.com

Click Goals > Change Goals > Custom > Continue

On the customize goals page, you can now click on your new bookmark.

It will automatically go from looking something like this:

 MyFitnessPal Change To Grams

To something like this….

MyFitnessPal Change To Grams

You can see that there is now a dropdown next to the macros to select grams or more specific percentages (incremented by 1%).

Now you can change your MFP goals to customize it for your goals!!
