Everyone has a body part that they want to improve. For me, it’s my abs. I’ve always carried my weight in my mid section and have a hard as heck time trying to see any ab definition…no matter what I do or how I eat.
I can usually improve all other body parts with some time and effort but my core is super stubborn.
I really wish there was a way to spot reduce specific areas on my body but sorry to be the bearer or bad news, but it’s just not possible to spot reduce. Even if you do five hundred sit ups a day, your abs still won’t show through until you get rid of that layer of fat that lays over them.
The only way to six pack abs is through working out and a damn near perfect diet (and in my opinion..genetics also plays a huge role in abs).
But wait..is that the only way to get a six pack these days?
People are now taking this ab obsession to a whole other level and getting AB IMPLANTS.
Yes…it’s true. Check it…
This is from an OPA show in Sudbury Ontario last weekend.
Pretty messed up, huh?!?!
They just look so..unnatural in my opinion.
I was curious how they did in their show and heard that she ended up placing 5th and he placed 2nd. Apparently the judges liked what they saw.
**Update** A commenter just informed me that both of those competitors were busted and did NOT win. In addition to that they have both been banned forever from competing, just like winners who test dirty after the fact for PED’s. Forever banned is NOT good, and cheaters never win.
I wanted to do some more research to find out a little more about this new trend.
Here is what I found…
Ab Implants vs Ab Etching
There are two different procedures. There’s ab implants and “ab etching”.
Abdominal etching, or Ab etching can be done by a plastic surgeon. The procedure selectively removes a small amount of fat around the patient’s natural muscular contours and shapes or sculpts the abdomen to create a more athletic contour. It’s sort of like liposuction around your abdominal muscles.
Before going under the knife, the surgeon marks up the individual’s natural abs by asking them to flex. Everyone’s abs are different so this is probably done to make them look as natural as possible for your specific body.
The procedure is recommended to those who are already in shape. If the patient is already in shape and already has slight abdominal muscular definition, it would be easier to identify the shape of their current muscular structure and make it look more natural.
Ab implants are what they sound like. Surgeons can reconstruct muscles and use implants to achieve the look the patient is looking for.
I’m thinking ab implants or ab sketching would be a dumb idea unless you’re in shape in the first place, it would be VERY unnatural to see abs on someone who is a bit overweight.
Proof is below
If you’re curious..that’s Darryn Lyons who was on the show Big Brother. He liked to refer to his procedure as “a male’s version of a boob job.”
I guess it’s like getting breast implants….pick your size.
In this case..bigger isn’t always better 😉
Obviously you can see he still has a lot of body fat on him so the abs just look ridic!!! So unnatural looking!
These procedures are ideal for patients who have between one to two centimeters of “pinchable belly fat”.
Not all ab implants or ab sketching patients looked as unnatural as Darryn Lyons though.
Ab Etching Pictures
I found a couple who seem to have nailed the ab sketching. They were already in shape before the procedure but the etching made their abs look much better.
Subtle and natural…
How much do ab implants cost? You can expect to pay somewhere around $7,000 – $15,000. Would you spend that kinda cash for instant abs?
This whole concept made me start thinking….is this fair in the competition world? Is it fair if you’re competing in a show against another woman who has had thousands of dollars in plastic surgery to enhance their physique?
At first I thought..hell no..that’s NOT fair. I’d be pissed!
Then I realized…it’s almost expected to have fake boobs in the competition world these days (shout out to all of the NATURAL competitors out there – We are few and far between these days!!)
If fake boobs are almost expected these days, I guess you can’t criticize someone who uses plastic surgery to enhance their abs, right?
Gosh I hope this fad doesn’t become popular….I don’t think I’m ready for this madness.
What do you think of this?!? Would you go to this extreme to get perfect abs or do you think it looks absolutely ridiculous?
I’d love hear your comments, leave them below!
