Our Trip To Charleston, South Carolina

I finally found some time to post about my trip that we went on last weekend to my future home (hopefully), Charleston, South Carolina!

Let me just say that I fell in love with it even more than I was and I want to move there NOW NOW NOW. I am so in love with it!!

So our flight was supposed to leave Wednesday morning until I got a call saying it was delayed. Luckily we were still at home so we hung around and waited to leave so we weren’t stuck
waiting at the airport. As soon as we were about to leave again, we got another call saying it was delayed again. This continued to happen 3 times until we got the final call saying that our flight was CANCELLED! My boyfriend and I have the worst luck when we have vacationed together. The only other vacation we have been on, was for a cruise and our flight got cancelled and we had to drive 8 hours to Alabama to catch another flight!!! This time it was cancelled and USAirways made us drive 2 hours to Dayton, Ohio to catch a flight. Which obviously messed up our flights coming home since we now had to fly into another airport. (I highly doubt we’ll be using USAirways again anytime soon)

Everything was totally messed up but thank goodness for my boyfriend staying positive. I have a tendency to be over organized and when my plans fall apart from something I can’t control, I tend to freak out! haha. So thanks to him, we eventually ended up driving 2 hours away and got on a flight. We were way later than expected but we were on our way!

After a layover in Charlotte we finally made it to Charleston!

My first impression…it was HOT HOT HOT.

After being there for a couple days, we learned that we actually went when the humidity level was higher than normal for June. After the first two days, the weather was literally PERFECT. I couldn’t have asked for better weather!

One of our first days there, we went to look at a couple apartments where we may want to move. One of them was EXACTLY what we want which was exciting. While talking to the girls at the apartment complex, we were recommended to check out this restaurant/bar in Shem Creek called Red’s Ice House. It was such a cool old place that used to be an ice house for fisherman.

I think it was that exact moment when we were sitting at Red’s just taking in the views, beautiful weather, atmosphere and a nice cold Mai Tai, that we both realized that we NEED to live in South Carolina!

Red’s was very old and has an upstairs with great views. It had such a beachy feel that we were looking for. We ended up going there a couple times throughout our trip.

We were in Charleston for 4 nights and had zero plans when we arrived, yet we managed to have the most perfectly planned trip and every minute we were doing something! Here are some pictures of what we spent our time doing…

We went to almost all of the restaurants/bars in Shem Creek. Let me tell ya…I was NOT great with my nutrition at all on vacation. But I’m back on track now 🙂

We went on a carriage ride tour of Charleston. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip. We got to learn about the history of Charleston and see some AMAZING houses.

Our horses name was “apple”. Honestly I felt kind of bad for the horses but they made me feel better when they told me how they were limited to how many tours they can give a day, and that they only come to Charleston for a couple weeks and then back to an open farm where they can run around free. That made me feel better.

Here’s a not so great picture of “Rainbow Row” which is what you’ve probably seen in pictures to represent Charleston. I absolutely love the colors of the houses. It gives such a beach town feel.

Then we were off to learn about Charleston through a harbor boat tour.

We got to see Fort Sumter..

And sweat our asses off out in the middle of the ocean for an hour and a half. haha.

I got stung by a bee on the cruise which was a bummer!

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge was absolutely beautiful and we cruised right under it. For some reason I’m just fascinated by bridges. They are so beautiful!

We went to the Party At The Point at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina on Friday night. They had a live reggae band and everyone sat on the beach. I love that everything there is so dog friendly too!

The dock at the party at the beach had some amazing views! Ryan ended up hurting his back while we were there which was too bad. That’s the worst!!!

One more picture of a chariot in downtown Charleston. This one was adorable!

The pineapple fountain!!

We also checked out the market and bought some fun souvenirs to take home. We checked out Sullivan’s Island beach which was really nice but SUPER windy! We spent our last day at Folly Beach. If I had a lot of money, that would be a great place to buy a beach home. That had the typical beach town look. If you’ve ever read a Nicholas Sparks book….I felt like I lived in one of his books when we were at the town by Folly Beach. So amazing.

I had to post this pic of Ryan. He’s such a hottie! 🙂 I’m a lucky girl!

So even though our flights were totally screwed up on the way there and home, I got stung by a damn bee and Ryan hurt his back while we were there…we still had the perfect vacation.

I literally can’t wait to go back. I want to move there NOW!!!!

If you’ve never been to Charleston, I recommend you going to check it out. You will probably fall in love with it like I have. I don’t know how you couldn’t!!!

101 in 1001 Goals Completed:

  • #3. Try 20 new restaurants (RB’s, Redd’s Ice House, Henry’s House, Kickin’ Chicken, Juanita Greenberg’s and Hyman’s Seafood)
  • #4. Try 25 new foods (seafood mac and cheese & boiled peanuts.  NOT a fan of boiled peanuts…that’s got to be a southern thing!)
  • #37. Visit 3 states I’ve never been to (Charlotte, NC for layover!)
  • #39. Visit South Carolina
  • #66. Read five books (I read The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks on vacation it was pretty good)
  • #86. Ride a horse (Not sure if my carriage ride officially counts as riding a horse but we DID ride the horse!! haha)

  1. Aching back and bee sting do not matter when there are a lot of things to enjoy. You certainly had a good time! Great photos!

With its laid back ambience, historical landmarks, beautiful beaches and great restaurants, Charleston is definitely a good place to live in. Nearby areas like Kiawah Island, Sullivans Island, and Daniel Island give you a lot of things to explore.

  2. Charleston all the way down to Savannah is such a photogenic part of the country! You really don’t have to look far to find something historic or truly unique. I love it down here!
