Oxygen Officially Closes It’s Doors

I was hoping that this follow up post  from my earlier post would be a lot different.  I posted almost a week ago as soon as I saw the first tweet about Oxygen going bankrupt.  As you all know, I’m a HUGE fan of Oxgyen and had my dreams to someday be in the magazine.  That was literally my ultimate goal in fitness!  Well….looks like that’s not going to happen now.  Tosca has spoken and Oxygen is officially closing their doors…

Tosca Reno was married to the late Robert “Bob” Kennedy and when Bob passed away suddenly,  she took over the publishing company he started 40 years ago.

She confirmed reports of the publishing powerhouse closing its doors on her website stating, “Canusa, parent company of Robert Kennedy Publishing which produced magazines Muscle Mag International, Reps!, Oxygen, American Curves and Clean Eating as well as hundreds of books (New York Times best sellers: Hardcore Bodybuilding, Reps!, RockHard!, Beef It!, Pumping Up! and the Eat-Clean Diet Series) has ceased business operations by officially closing its doors last Friday.”

Tosca mentions that the publishing industry being in financial trouble and the increase of “tablet computers” as reader’s choice over print to be the downfall. She also states, “These factors along with the soft economy have pushed many businesses into bankruptcy particularly in the publishing world.”

I guess I have to say that it makes sense.  I mean…there aren’t many successful magazines anymore these days.  Everything is electronic.  I do everything electronic now..except my one issue of Oxygen!!  There was something so exciting about seeing the magazine in my mailbox and flipping through all the pages, tearing out good workouts to bring to the gym, recipes to add to my cook book and seeing so many familiar faces on all the pages.  You just don’t have that same experience with an online magazine!  I’m so bummed!!!

I’m praying Oxygen finds a new place in the industry and somehow manages to dig itself back up and continue to publish the magazine.  I know if they ever come back, I guarantee to be a lifetime subscriber!!

Come back soon, Oxygen!!!

  1. I was really bent out of shape about this news as well having been a subscriber to Oxygen since almost the beginning and from day one for Clean Eating. I’ve looked forward to my issue of Oxygen for as long as I can remember. I hope someone sees the value and brings it back. Fortunately, I subscribe through Zinio for my Kindle and was reimbursed for the outstanding issues of Clean Eating.
