Indiana Dunes Workout

How in the world is the weekend already over?! It FLEW by but that’s probably because I was so busy.  Friday night I hit up the gym around 9pm for a late night back, shoulder, biceps & triceps workout.  It’s nice being in the gym that late on a Friday night because it was EMPTY.   The Lifetime I go to on the weekends is  always extremely busy so it was a nice change of pace to go at that time.

Saturday we woke up early and headed towards Chicago.  We were heading to Chicago for a wedding but we left a few hours earlier than needed so we could stop at the Indiana Dunes for a workout!

The Indiana Dunes has a TON of different trails and dunes that are perfect for a good sweat session.  We looked through the list of trails and decided on the West Beach Trails to start with.

I love changing up my workouts and taking them outdoors.  It’s so much more fun to be outside!

Getting a good stretch in before dominating the trail 😉

West Beach trail had over 250 stairs to take to get to the beautiful beach that overlooks the Chicago skyline.

This is the start of the West Beach Trail.  Very intimidating to start with a set of stairs like that but it sure was a good workout to sprint up those suckers!

After all the stairs, we finally made it to the beach.  There was a bit of overcast on Saturday so the view wasn’t the greatest, but we could still see Chicago when we made it to the beach.

If you look close enough, you can see the Chicago skyline in the background in-between my arms 🙂

After the West Beach trail, we hopped in the car and headed over to another area called Mount Baldy.

“At roughly 125 feet tall, Mount Baldy is the largest “living” dune in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. As the dune moves, it buries everything in its path, including trees. Over the last several years, park officials at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore have noted that Mount Baldy has begun moving inland at an increased pace.” (Source)

Check out one of the dunes we climbed at Mount Baldy.  It was huge!  I’m not going to lie, I was scared!  Climbing this dune was by far the hardest part of our workout but when we got to the top, the views were just beautiful!!!

We finished off our workout another jog along the beach before heading back in the car to finish our drive to Chicago for the wedding.

It was so much fun to get out and try something new.  I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other trails that the Indiana Dunes has to offer.

Now I just have to deal with the INSANE soreness in my calves from climbing those stairs and dunes!  🙂
