Shedding The Winter Weight

Like everyone, I tend to put on some extra weight during the winter months.  With the holidays and my bikinis packed away for months due to the cold weather, I always seem to gain some weight.  It never fails!

This year wasn’t much different, except I had an added reason for a little weight gain.  Since about a month after my competition, I have been in “building” mode.  I have been eating a lot more clean calories (along with some not so clean..not going to lie), I’ve been doing less cardio and have been lifting HEAVY.

I’ve been really trying to build some muscle this winter.  I have been concentrating on lifting lower reps and higher weight in order to build.   Luckily, I do understand that by building muscle you have to eat more because building muscle requires more calories and will also require you to add some extra fat too!

It’s simple equation to understand…More calories + less cardio + heavy weights + low reps = Gains

I’m hoping a lot of the extra pounds I’ve gained this winter are some sexy muscle that is just waiting to bust out when I switch up my routine.

On that note, I’m officially switching over to start trimming down and revealing my winter muscle I’ve worked so hard for!

Time to change up the routine and start working on my bikini bod 🙂

I’m going to do this by changing the above equation to:

Less calories + More cardio + heavy weights + higher reps + plyometrics = fat loss

I’m going to be adding in more cardio to promote fat loss, continue to lift as heavy as possible but do a little bit higher reps.  I’m going to be adding in plyometrics during my lifts so that my heart rate is super high during my lifting.  I’m going to clean up my diet more so that I am eating clean but not eating in excess.

With those simple changes, I will be able to start shedding my winter weight!

I’m so excited to see what I can do for this coming bikini season 🙂

I started my day off yesterday with a 24 hour cleanse day!  I love the feeling I get from a quick cleanse to remove the toxins in my body and hit that REFRESH button.  I only did a one day cleanse but it’s the same cleanse that is found within the 30 day system or the 9 day Isagenix system if you’re interested in doing one too! If you want more info on the cleanses, email me at livelifeactive@gmail.com or leave a comment below!

I can’t believe it’s almost February.  Spring is right around the corner folks!!!  Let’s hit it hard and start working on that bikini body!

  1. I am doing the same – thinning out after bulking up! I’m actually trying carb cycling for the first time and am so excited to see the results!

  2. Good tips, but I thought to lose weight you had to do medium cardiovascular exercise for prolonged periods of time…. Plyometrics are really intense exercises that can’t be done over a long period, say 45 minutes or an hour… waht do you think?

    • You can lose weight by doing steady state cardio but I wouldn’t recommend it. Doing your weights first will put you into the fat burning mode by the time you get to cardio. When you do cardio, I’d recommend doing HIIT training because it will allow you to continue to burn calories throughout the day. With medium paced cardio exercise, you pretty much stop burning as soon as you stop exercising. HIIT all the way!
