Color Run 5k

I participated in the Color Run 5k this past weekend and let me tell ya…it was a BLAST!!!  This was the first year for the Color Run and I’m definitely going to do it again next year.  It was unlike any other race I’ve ever done.   I am a huge fan of runs that aren’t just RUNNING.  Those are boring to me.  I love races like this one and also mud runs!

If you don’t know what the Color Run is, I’ll explain it a little.  This is a run that is less compeitive than others I’ve done.  It’s more about having fun than anything.  I did it with a group of people who were of all different athletic levels.  Kids are also welcome.  My friend brought her little girl and we pushed her in the stroller.   She had SO MUCH FUN!

The only thing you have to do is wear a white shirt to start the race.  A lot of people wore bright socks, shorts headbands, sunglasses, hats, bandanas, shoes..etc with their white shirts.  At each kilometer, you run through a color station.  If you run through the middle of the station, you’ll get less color.  If you run along the sides, you get the most color (which is obviously what we did!).

By the end of the 5k, you have run through 5 colors and everyone looks so colorful.  The color is actually made of cornstarch and is more like a powder than a paint.  It does come off your body and clothes and is not harmful.

Everyone has their own color packet that they keep with them while running.  At the end of the race, there’s a huge celebration where everyone throws up their colors and it looks like a huge colorful cloud.  It’s so cool!!!!

I took a ton of pictures, so I’m sorry if this post is pretty heavy with pics.

The beautiful city of Indianapolis, IN.  This is downtown at the canal.  We started and finished right by the canal.

We were clean until we started running through the color stations….check out the blue station below…

These pictures were taken during the race.  It’s obviously not a competitive 5k when people are always stopping to take pictures.  It’s just FUN!

My friend’s daughter got the most color out of everyone!!  That stroller is going to be a nightmare to clean!

The picture below is at the end when everyone throws their own color into the air to make a huge cloud of colors.

If the Color Run comes near you, I highly recommend doing it!  It is a fun race for all ages and athletic levels.

  1. I was so jealous I couldn’t do this one. It sold out in record time!

But I have noticed I definitely have trended towards runs that I can do with people that are more “for fun” than anything else. Hence the untimed undie dash I just did last week! Hilarious!

  2. I live in the Netherlands and I think it is fun to run the Color Run.
May be I come to the States next year and then I want to do this run.
In the meantime I’ll try to get some information from participants of this run.

I saw the pictures of you with a lot of paint on your shorts.
Because I have just started to run, I don’t want to ruin my almost new shorts
That’s why I want to know if you had to throw away your runningshorts after the run because they have been ruined? Or are they easily to be cleaned?
