Stability Ball Push Ups

As I said in yesterday’s blog post, I shocked myself by getting up BEFORE work to do my cardio and made it to the gym on my lunch break to do my weight training!  I was done with 2 workouts before the work day ended 🙂  What did I do with my extra time after work?  I surprised the bf by mowing the lawn!! Do I get some kind of award for girlfriend of the year? I think so!

I NEVER mow the lawn because I hate it.  I really hate it!  Our lawn is about a quarter acre I think, so it’s BIG and we have a push-mower.  It’s not fun.  When the bf got home from work, his happiness made everything worth it.  He had been planning on mowing, and I just made his life a little easier.

I don’t think I went into much detail about this, but last week I had to take the week off from training.  I got sick and had to take time off work.  I also somehow hurt my lower back.  I think it was from doing dead lifts.  It still hurts but it’s getting a TINY bit better each day.  I needed to listen to my body and take some time off last week..so that’s what I did.  It was so weird coming home from work every day and not going to the gym.  I felt so weird!!

After taking about a week off from the gym, I think I may have pushed myself a bit too hard on the weights yesterday for chest/back day.  I should have tried to ease my way back into it, but I got excited and lifted heavy.  Today I’m paying for it and I’m SORE!

One exercise that I would have never imagined I’d enjoy is stability ball push-ups!

Basically you grab a stability ball and put your toes on top of the ball with your hands out in front.  You’ll be in a plank position with your feet on the ball.  You then do push-ups!  I did 3 sets of 15 and felt the BURN!  It really works your chest, shoulders, triceps and stability muscles in your core!

I remember when I started out on the Jamie Eason Live Fit program, I couldn’t even do a normal pushup.  I was doing every pushup on my knees the “girly” way.  I’m not saying there’s anyting wrong with it because it started me in the right direction, but it’s much harder to do a regular one.  NOW, I’m not only cranking out regular push-ups, but I’m doing them balancing on a stability ball!! Ahhhh I love seeing progress in my training!

Have you ever tried stability ball push-ups? If not, you should!!!

Here I am rocking out some push-ups!

  1. Way to go with your double (triple really) workout yesterday! It’s amazing how much motivation we can get from taking a week off for rest and recovery. When you get back you are always ready to bring it!

I was planning on doing a chest and triceps day today, so I will have to try the stability ball pushups. Regular pushups are starting to get a tad boring anyways.

  2. Excellent exercise, you can use additionally the wide hands position push ups which really burns your chest and the diamond push ups (close hands position) for hard triceps workout!
My favorite is push-ups on ball and then Exercise Ball Pull-In burns chest.
