Eating Clean At Work

I have always been a “go out to eat at lunch” kinda girl when working full time, until recently.  Since I dedicated myself to eating clean, I’ve learned that I need to bring food to work with me in order to do so.  I need to eat every 2-3 hours and there isn’t much you can get on the go or in my cafeteria at work, that is “clean”.

Every Sunday, I prep my food for the week.  I usually put all the food into their appropriate portion sizes and into tupperware or Ziploc bags.  The night before I go to work, I grab a bag and throw in all the food I need.  It’s so much easier this way!

I had my bag of food ready to go and my boyfriend picked it up.  He was SHOCKED by how heavy it was for just the day from 7:30 – 4pm.  I thought it would be funny to see how much food I bring to work by putting it on the scale ..

I bring almost 3 1/2 lbs of food to work every day.  That’s a lot of food!!!

Here’s a look at what I brought to work today (4 meals worth).

Left column – Meal 1 – Oats, egg whites, orange (natural peanut butter not pictured)

Middle left column – Meal 2 – Greek Yogurt, Blueberries, celery, carrots, kashi cereal

Middle right column – Meal 3 – Spinach salad, 1 egg white, strawberries, salsa chicken, 1 slice of Ezekiel bread

Right column – Meal 4 – brussel sprouts, protein cookie/muffin, orange, (almonds not pictured).  I know that’s a strange combo! I just grabbed any combo of veggie, protein, fat & starch..and that’s what happened today.

Do you bring your food to work every day or are you an eat lunch out type of person?

Yesterday I made some salsa chicken in the crock pot.  I love coming home to a fully prepared meal!  It smelled so good too!

I put the salsa chicken in some romaine leaves to act as taco shells and topped with some greek yogurt to act as sour cream.  It was sooo good and I’m excited to have it again tonight for dinner.

I’ve been eating my breakfast cookies and they taste SO good with some natural peanut butter over them.  OMG I want one now!

Over the weekend, it was Cinco de Derby day and of course I was going to celebrate!  I celebrated with a couple cervezas and a hat..even though my hat was not derby appropriate..it was one of the only ones I had.  I tried to pull it off….

Then we went to our local casino/track to place some bets on the Kentucky Derby.  I took off the hat for the race track..don’t worry!

I made about 4 bets and didn’t win a damn penny.  Stupid #19 horse..you blew it for me.

I tried this new beer on Saturday – It’s Jimmy buffett’s beer called Landshark.  It tasted a bit like Corona.  I’ll try anything that has to do with Buffett! I love him!  If you’ve never been to one of his concerts…I totally recommend it!

  • #5 Try 6 new beers (5/6 completed)

I’ve been asked by a couple people how my fur-babies are doing after their big surgery day.  They are doing well and thanks for asking!!

They have been much more tired than usual..but I’ll blame that on the drugs they are on.  Poor babies!

Did you do anything fun for Cinco de Derby day?

  1. That is a lot of food 🙂 I bring my lunch most days, unless we run out of lettuce haha.

I am glad your puppies are doing well! At least you had them both done at the same time. It could have been much worse!

  2. I bring my breakfast and lunch every day and my greatest challenge is finding food to eat between meals. I snack on unsalted mixed nuts and occasionally I’ll eat 2 hard boiled eggs. Your blog entry has given me a few more ideas for my 2 snacks (morning snack and afternoon snack) throughout the day.

Also, I’ve been drinking 1 gallon/water for the past several weeks, since your blog post about how it eliminates bloat. I must say that I have never felt better and my skin looks and feels healthy. The challenge, however, is that by drinking so much water, I am not as hungry, so I am not noticing that I’m skipping my 2 snacks throughout the day. This is important because I know that my meals during the day will give me energy for my workouts and will help me retain my muscle. Thoughts?

    • I’m so glad the water is making you feel better!!! I agree with you though, sometimes water fills me up too. There have been times when I’m not hungry when it’s time to eat, but I usually try to eat anyway. I know that I need the food to keep my metabolism going and, as you said, fuel my workouts. Just try to eat SOMETHING every 2-3 hours. My biggest problem with the gallon a day is all the bathroom trips!! I feel like a pregnant woman! haha.

  3. Yes, the bathroom trips are the worst! Also, I’m sure you’ve read the warnings against consuming too much water, especially if you do not have a diet that is high in sodium. What do you think of this? I find that my diet during the week is clean but during the weekends, I have at least 2-3 cheat meals/drinks that are not as clean and contain more sodium than during the week. I need the gallon of water during the weekends, especially, but do you think the gallon/day goal is excessive during the week when my diet is clean?

    • I have heard about the dangers of consuming TOO much water..but I don’t think a gallon is too much. I know some people who try to drink 2 gallons a day..now that may be pushing it! Water does help with sodium levels so it’s great to drink a lot around your cheat meals.

  4. I always bring my food from home. I think I may even have you beat with the weight of my lunch box. I’ll have to weight it now. =) I use pyrex containers to hold my food. I always pack two snacks, and a big salad for lunch. I also bring a water bottle full of an intra-workout BCAA’s/glutamine blend for the gym after work. I pack everything in double, because my husband works with me and we both eat clean. My husband carried my lunch box to the car yesterday and was shocked by how heavy it was. He jokes that it’s a good thing I am building muscle, so I can carry our lunch box everyday.
