Sunday Food Prep & My Typical Sunday Grocery List

Let me start off this post with some bad news.  Unfortunately I didn’t win the Bahamas commercial & vacation.  I’m so upset and I found out in the worst possible way too.  On Friday, I got an email saying something along the lines of  “I’m the producer of the commercial, congratulations on winning..blah blah blah”.  At the top of the email, however, it said “Dear April,” and my name sure as hell isn’t April.  After confirming with the contest dude, he apologized for the mix-up and confirmed that I was indeed the runner up and did NOT WIN.

I thought this was some sort of April fools day joke..but no..I just have that bad of luck.

Seriously? That’s like the worst possible way to win this contest after doing so many interviews and videos to get to that point.   I would have rather lost in the first round then making it to the LAST 2 and losing.  He tried to make it better by saying “if anything happens with the winner and they can’t do it, you will win.”  That’s Bull.  Who’s going to let anything get in the way of that opportunity.  I lost..you won..April…whoever you are.

I hope April’s passport mysteriously disappears or some dog eats it.  Sorry..did I just say that? Yep! I’m still bitter about it.

On another note, I wanted to post what a typical Sunday grocery trip looks like for me.

Since I’ve been eating 5-6 times a day, I really have to plan and make frequent trips to the grocery store. For the past month, I’ve been going on Sundays and prepping my food for the entire week on Sunday afternoons.

I tend to spend around $65 each week on clean eating for the week.  That really isn’t too bad.  Plus I should factor in a little bit more for meal replacement shakes and protein…

I’ve been buying pretty much the same thing every week, with a few things changed every week so I don’t get too bored.  Here’s what I usually get…

  • Whole Wheat Oats
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • 30 eggs
  • Snow Peas or Green Beans
  • Carrot/Celery Mix
  • Diced Peppers
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Tomato Paste
  • Broccoli
  • 3 lbs chicken
  • 2 lb boneless chicken

I then spend the afternoon cooking and individually packing meals for the week.  Here’s a look at how I prepped my food for the week.  It took me a little over an hour to prep all the food below.  I’m getting MUCH quicker at this routine!

Pictured above I have all my fruits on the left hand side (I had oranges left over from last week). Veggies are in the second column, salads are in the blue tupperware, chicken chili is in the circle tupperware, Greek yogurt in the back right, and a whole bunch of hard boiled eggs (separated into 4 per bag).

I also made a batch of Jamie Eason’s Chicken muffins which aren’t pictured above.

All the food above will last me about a week.  I also have 2lb of chicken left to cook that I may do later on in the week if I need it.

Do you prep your food on Sundays?

I have found that it helps me TREMENDOUSLY during the week.  I don’t have to cook at all after long days at work and the gym, and it keeps me from making bad decisions during the week.  If the food is already ready to go, I have no excuse to not eat it!

After all the food prep, the BF and I had some fun with my new camera.  We still don’t know how to use the fancy camera but this picture turned out pretty cool!  I love that the weight is blurry but my face is in focus.

I need to take a photography class…asap!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I’m SUPER excited to get back into the gym and tear up some chest/back/cardio tonight!  Woohoo!

 101 in 1001 Goals Completed:

  • 5. Try 25 new foods (7 out of 25 now completed.  I tried sugar snap peas for the first time today.  They were pretty good but not my favorite.)
  • 7.  Don’t eat out at a restaurant for one full week.  (I completed this last week and am proud of myself.  I used to eat out at least once a day!)
  • 53.  Give money to someone homeless on the side of the road.  I did this on Friday 🙂
  • 63.  Establish an emergency fund.  I have finally got this covered.  It feels good!
  • 90. Go a full day without saying anything negative or complaining  ( I’ve been generally very happy lately, so this was no problemo!)
