Thanksgiving weekend was super busy for this girl. I headed back to Chicago to see my family and friends for the weekend. I drove up on Wednesday after work. Traffic was not fun because of the holiday. I think it took me a little over 4 hours to get there. My trip usually takes about 3 hours. Right when I got there, we headed to my Dad and my favorite northshore pizza joint, Barnabys pizza! They have really good thin pizza. We ordered a cheese and green olive pizza..yum! I was worried about eating too much because we had the 5k to run in the morning. No one likes to run a race with an upset stomach!
We woke up bright and early on Thanksgiving to head to the Northshore Turkey Trot. This was the first time my dad and I have ever run a race together, so it was super exciting! My two girlfriends came out to run too.
I’m the type of runner who likes to run and then walk for a minute, then run and walk. I don’t know why I do this. Maybe it’s the soccer player in me..we would always sprint and then slow down in games. Who knows. I was worried about how my pace and my dad’s pace would match up, but he pushed me through the race without stopping. We finished in 30:05. I was pleasantly surprised with our time and the amount of hills there were on the course.
After the race, my dad’s cat welcomed us home and reminded us that we had a lot of turkey to be consumed 🙂
This was my plate at Thanksgiving, plus a dinner roll. I ended up eating another one of them later that night since we ate so early..and then another one the next day. Gosh leftover Tday food never disapoints!
I did a little Black Friday shopping at CVS. I got all of the stuff pictured below for less than $3.00. Yep…call me the crazy coupon lady 🙂
I went out on Friday in Chicago with my girls. We ended up going to several different bars and one club. Can I just say that the club made me realize how old I’m getting?! The bass was soooo loud, I felt like my heart was beating out of my chest haha. I would have never said that in my college days. Times change. The next morning we went to the Tavern on Rush which is downtown Chicago. They had a sunny side egg & bacon pizza!! I was still halfway drunk and thought it was a great idea.
It actually wasn’t too bad but I’m never disapointed with anything pizza related.
On Sunday I decorated my house for Christmas. I seriously love this time of the year. I wish I could leave up my decorations year round. It makes it seem so much more homey.
Our little 6ft fake tree that I had from the Chicago days. You couldn’t fit much in Chicago apartments, so we got a small one. Now it looks wimpy in my Indy house!
I went nutso shopping on Saturday at Joann Fabrics. They had a black friday sale and all decorations were 50-65% off! I bought so much stuff. My favorite thing was my nutcracker snowman.
Aren’t these little nutcracker shopping girlies the cutest thing!!!??? I loved them so much I just had to buy one of them too.
As for workouts, I wasn’t the greatest over break but it could have been worse.
Thursday – Ran 5k
Friday – Gym for Day 46 -Shoulders
Saturday – Traveled back to Indy..no workout
Sunday – Did Legs at home for Day 47 – Legs day
Sunday was the first time I ever tried to do a workout at home. To be honest, it wasn’t that easy because I don’t have a lot of eqipment at home and I couldn’t figure out some alternative exercises for some leg exercises. I ended up doing all my squats, (single and wide legged) and calfs. I couldn’t figure out how to do leg curls or leg extensions so I skipped them. I didn’t feel too bad though because I got a great burn from my squats and calf raises. I also did the glute bridges with a dumbell on my hips. I knew this was going to be an akward exercise to do at the gym, so I’m kinda glad I did it at home! There’s nothing like seeing a girl at the gym on the ground humping the air 🙂
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Weekend!!
**Erin**
hi, i’m glad i came across ur blog.
i’m currently doing Insanity. was thinking of starting w JE Live Fit after this.
I’m a new mom, w/ a 7-1/2 mth old baby girl, am working full time. therefore, i dont have the luxury of time to go to the gym.
if u have any advise on wat wkout alternatives to do? and i dont have a barbell. does it work the same for dumbells?
You should do it!! I completley suggest this program to EVERYONE! It helped me get on the right start with fitness and really taught me a LOT. There are a lot of people who have done this program at home. There is a great support group on facebook for those who are doing it at home. They can help give you ideas of alternative exercises. Here is the link to that group: http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/306289266066827/. There’s also a huge database of exercises on bodybuilding.com that lists alternative exercises for almost everything. GOOD LUCK!!!
