So last night I tried out the BodyAttack group class at LifeStyle Family Fitness. This is the first time I’ve ever done this class, and only the second Les Mills class I’ve ever done (BodyPump was the other one). I was nervous going into the class, but as soon as I got there, the trainer asked if anyone was new. I had to say I had never done it, because I didn’t want to look like a fool who couldn’t keep up with the steps for no reason. She made me feel very comfortable before starting.
The LesMills website states: “BODYATTACK™ is the sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high-energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises. Dynamic instructors and powerful music motivate everyone towards their fitness goals – from the weekend athlete to the hard-core competitor! Like all the LES MILLS™ programs, a new BODYATTACK™ class is released every three months with new music and choreography.”
Overall, the class was a success. The trainer was awesome and kept me entertained the whole time. The intensity of this class was very high. The whole 55 minutes, I was moving and my heart rate was high. There were a few things in the choreography that I just couldn’t do…I’m not coordinated when it comes to doing one thing with my feet and one thing with my arms. I think it’s safe to say that I could follow along with about 80% of the choreography, which I never thought would have been the case.
I wore my heart rate monitor the whole time during the class (except for the last few minutes of cool down/stretching). The beginning of the class the heart rate strap around my ribcage kept falling down! I don’t know if it stretched out or what, but it was a real big pain for me. I’ve gotta figure out a way to tighten it more than it allows you to.
After the class, my HRM said that my average heart rate was 177 and my max heart rate was 194. I wonder how accurate that is….
My calories burned showed 651!!!! Holy Crapoli! That’s insane! 52 minutes of cardio and 651 calories down the drain?? Do you think this is accurate? I know I read online that this class can burn up to 800 calories, so maybe it is? It just seems so high to me.
Has anyone ever gotten the protein plate at Starbucks? I tried it recently and I’m a fan! It had a hard-boiled egg, grapes, apples, cheese and a small bagel with peanut butter. It was a nice little meal. I had the egg and fruit for breakfast and had the bagel and PB for a snack later on in the day. The whole thing was about $5 bucks from Starbucks and held 370 calories, 13 g protein, 18 g fat, 5 g fiber and 560 mg sodium. I think this should be more of a lunch for me…it’s a bit to heavy for my typical breakfast.
651? That does seem high! But you never know… usually when I take my stats at the gym, just to be sure, I say I burned less than what the machine says (just to be safe when trying to count). But the heart rate monitor should be more accurate, right?
Oh and my friend also went to the same street fest you did and she said Vince Vaughn walked right by her on Sunday… I wanted to die a little right then and there…
NO wayyyyY!!!!! ahhhh! I would have went NUTS if I saw him!!!
I agree it does seem a little high but if ur hr monitor was on it has to be pretty accurate. I would definitely wear the hr monitor again if u take the class a second time to see what it says then.
Love the blog!
I’ve been meaning to try the Protein Plate at Starbucks (instead of the delicious pastries). I’m glad to hear you like it!
Give it a shot! You won’t be disappointed!
I like the sound of that protein plate, which is new to me. It’s always a pleasant surprise when fast food types of places offer more whole foods. Even if it’s filling for breakfast, it’s better than a muffin or other baked good.
Yay Starbucks.
Anyway…body attack…sounds fun, but the name scares me! Ha.
That class sounds like so much fun! I bet the watch is totally accurate – your heart rate was probably at the right level the entire time which results in more calories burned!
