BodyPump Class

I went to Lifestyle Fitness last night and tried out their Les Mills BodyPump class for the first time.  This is a class that focuses on strength training for an hour.  The class description is:

“Cardio format varies depending on instructor. A rapid fat-burning class that uses barbells to give you the fastest way to tone and condition muscles! After an exhaustive study, BODYPUMP® was verified by The University of Auckland as providing the fastest body fat loss of any fitness class.”

Overall thoughts…it was TOUGH!  I hate doing any type of gym group class for the first time because you don’t know what to expect or how much weight to use.  As I walked into the class, everyone was grabbing weights, steps, bars and mats.  I just watched everyone else and guessed on what weights to grab.  The instructor was great and we worked every major muscle group.  There were a lot of times during the session that my body was shaking uncontrollably from the weight.  I want to do it again so that I have a better idea of how much weight to use next time.

I wore my heart rate monitor during the class and in one hour I burned about 500 calories! Not to shabby!!

I usually don’t do classes at the gym because a lot of them require dancing and some type of arobic coordination.  I consider myself an athlete but really have no rhythm!  I would be lost in one of those dance classes like Zumba.  I’d love to be able to dance my butt off as a work out, but I think I’d fall over my own feet before I got any type of decent work out in.  You should see me trying to play on my Wii.  I have a game called Just Dance and I only busted it out one time because it was just a sad, SAD performance! Luckily I was home alone when that bad boy got busted out for the first and only time.  I wish I were better though because it was fun!!

Has anyone else ever taken a Body Pump class?  If so, what did you think of it? If not, what’s your favorite workout type class at the gym?

  1. No way! The last race I did has two free passes to that class by Lifestyle! I’m glad you’re giving it good reviews! I’m trying to figure out a good time to fit it in…

And I noticed you did an extra post about the Blackhawks- I didn’t take part, but apparently the city just went nuts. I think they even closed Clark street down in Wrigleyville because of the whole celebration!
