The Committee To Plan Parties

Wednesday turned out to be a strange, fun & fat day.  I was busy all morning at work and at lunch we went to Granite City Food & Brewery for a going away lunch with my co-worker and team.  Lunches with my I.T. team are always interesting.  My boss is cool, but sometimes the age difference and generation gaps really seem to make things awkward in the conversations. If you’re in the corporate world, you know what I’m talking about.  If you’re in the I.T. world, you know exactly what I’m talking about.  I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries.  It was ginormous!  I ate half the sandwich and demolished the fries.  That reminds me…the other half is in the work fridge.  I should maybe eat that for lunch today.  Shwing!

After lunch, my boss asked me if I’d like to go run some errands with her to go pick up some cakes and balloons for the going away party we had planned later on in the day.  I felt like I was part of the “Committee To Plan Parties”.  If you watch The Office, don’t get it confused with the “Party Planning Committee”.  (Pam and Karen threw way better parties than Angela’s Party Planning Committee).

So the boss and I went to Costco and Party city to pick up some goodies.  It was nice to get away with her and talk about all of my concerns with my job.  Somehow I really opened up and told her exactly how I felt.  Good work Erin!  We got along really well and she kept telling me how impressed with me she is at my new position here in Indy.

We got back to work and organized and decorated the room.  We got three HUGE cakes because we had no idea how many people would come.  We only ended up eating half of two of them.  Lots of left overs..not sure where they went but I’m glad I don’t know.  I ended up having a piece of chocolate cake and it was every piece of deliciousness that I was expecting it to be.  Smelling that darn cake the whole trip back to work just made me want it so bad!  I couldn’t give in to my temptation.

The star of our work party was a co-worker who always is chosen to do “entertainment” at our parties.  Yesterday he brought his balloons and did some balloon animals and art.  It’s so funny and amazing to watch him create fun balloon things.  He made a big St. Louis arch structure out of balloons because that’s where the two co-workers are moving to for their new position.

A work party isn’t a real party until you have balloon man show up 😉 Unfortunately drinking wasn’t allowed, like in The Office.  Work would be way more fun and tolerable if we could crack open a few beers here and there.

After work I went to a BBQ at our friend’s place.  I had an amazing cheeseburger, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and chips.  SOOO good and makes me realize we need to buy a grill ASAP!  I think a lawnmower should be our first purchase though..our lawn is currently taking over our house.  I don’t want to let ourselves be THOSE neighbors.

It was a fun and unusual day which made it go by way faster.  I ended up staying at work late, but it still seemed like the day went by fast.

I think I’m going to try to make chili for the first time tonight.  I’m thinking about using ground turkey and salsa.  Has anyone ever made chili with salsa instead of canned tomatoes?

  1. I really need to find a guy who can do balloon animals in our office… hilarious!

And I’ve used salsa in chili before to go along with the tomato sauce- but never used it to replace the sauce completely…

If you like spicy- I’d throw in some taco seasoning, too! 🙂

  2. I’ve used salsa quite a few times when making chili – it works really well. I usually add a little chicken stock also so it doesn’t get too dry.
