Restaurant chains will now show nutritional information!

According to CNN.com, restaurant chains will now show nutritional information due to the new healh care reform! I’m so excited about this.ย  FINALLY, we can make healthier choices when on the go.ย

“There are 540 calories in a Big Mac and 670 calories in a Whopper. Nutritional information will be unavoidable when customers step up to the counter to order.

The health care law requires chain restaurants that have more than 20 locations to display calorie information next to the food item on the standard menu.

Nutrition facts would also be required to be posted on vending machine products and drive-thru menus.”

Do you think this will affect the way you decide on what to order (if you order fast food)? Do you think the fast food industry will take a hit because of this?

  1. I’m one of those crazies that if the restaurant has their menu/nutritional info posted, I already know what I’m ordering and how many calories are in it.

I’m not really a calorie counter, but it does kind of help me balance my day out…

  2. Hi! Thanks for entering my giveaway on my blog. I love meeting new blog friends and people who share similar passions. I hope to see you around more and I will try to catch up more with you as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I am happy restaurants are being more proactive about their menus and nutrition data. I think a lot of people need a reality check with their food. I will admit that it probably wouldn’t change how I order since I don’t go out often and when I do it is to a favorite place where I plan to indulge more. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. I feel like if you go to McD’s you know that there is only 10% of their items you can get that are “healthy” but if they include The 99, Olive Garden, Kelly’s Roast Beef, Etc…that could make a huge difference. It would be a definite eye opener!

    • But even at McDonald’s you may think your getting a healthy salad just because it’s a salad. A lot of stuff may seem healthy but their nutritional facts prove it’s not!

  4. I think the only people it’ll affect are the people who are already counting calories. They may choose to eat out a bit more because the nutritional information is readily available and they don’t have to do research prior or spending the whole meal fretting over what they are eating.

Normal food that you buy at the supermarket is clearly marked (with the exception of fruits and veggies)-yet people STILL buy high calorie foods. They aren’t going to suddenly go out to eat and say “Oh, this meal is 40 calories less than the meal I was going to order!” They will order what they want to eat regardless.
